Assembly District 37 – Abigail Lowery

Who I am

I have an extensive background in public service that will connect me strongly to the many different people and issues within the 37th assembly district. I am a former special education teacher. Prior to that, I was an autism line therapist, respite care provider, group home coordinator, and special education assistant. I exited the teaching profession to stay at home full time with my two young children and during that time became involved in community organizing with the DeForest-Windsor Area Grassroots (DWAG) and volunteering as a meal delivery driver. As part of my most recent public service, I have proudly served as DeForest Village Trustee elected in 2017 and re-elected in 2019, chair of the DeForest Housing Authority Board of Commissioner (until 2019), DeForest Library Board member, and DaneCom board member. I have lived in the 37th District for over a decade and Wisconsin my whole life. I am a UW-Madison graduate. I am fortunate to call DeForest home with my husband, two kids, and a dog that we lovingly adopted from the Columbia County Humane Society.

Why I am Running

I have been honored to serve our community on the DeForest Village Board for the last three years and have successfully advocated for and implemented policies that ‘grow the good life’ here. We need more of that advocacy for our communities in the Capitol in Madison, and I am ready to bring that to the Wisconsin State Assembly. Many people have made it clear that they are ready for a change in the State Assembly. Status quo, do-the-bare-minimum, career politicians just do not fly anymore. Wisconsinites are independent thinkers who expect the best because they are the best. Elected officials and candidates need to earn their vote. I am ready to do the hard work listening and earning votes.
